After a long time of being closed up in the house with the pandemic of the last year plus, I needed to create something fun. It started with hammering out the copper fish and turned into an entire fish tank...and a whole lot of fun!
This "fish tank" of water creatures is a small sized wall hanging (approximately 9 inches round). Nearly all of the pieces on this wall hanging are wearable pieces of jewelry/art.
The goldfish was formed from copper using the ancient technique of chasing and repousse (shaping metal through hammering). Once the fish was formed, it was hand painted with acrylic paints and sealed. The fish is a wearable pin/brooch.
The "bubbles" coming from the fish's mouth are earrings (2 pairs) that were fashioned from polymer clay and have silver plated stud posts embedded in them. They have been coated to create a bit of a reflective sheen.
There is a small polymer clay turtle, as well as a small seaweed plant. These are also both made from polymer clay, have pin backs attached to them, and have been sealed with a gloss coating. They are meant to be worn as pins.
The "sea grass" is made of copper sheeting that has been textured through rolling mill. The sheet was then hammer formed and cut out to resemble sea grass. This part is permanently affixed to the wall hanging, so it is not wearable.
The "fish tank" itself is made from sheet copper that was hand cut, riveted, and hand colored. The color has been sealed in with a clear matte Krylon paint. I have added small, battery powered string lights to light the "fish tank" and give this wall piece a bit more dimension.
My hope is that the purchaser of this wall piece enjoys its quirkiness as much as I do (and as much as I enjoyed fabricating it)!
This fish bowl comes packaged, ready for giving (or keeping)!
